This 6,900 square foot Whistler residence was designed for a client, a developer himself, with strong opinions of what he wanted: space, brightness and openness. Large picture windows take advantage of dramatic views and wash the interior with warm light. Ledingham's design team, along with architect Raymond Letkeman, reconfigured the floor plans to eliminate large expanses of drywall in order to achieve the client's open-plan goal.
The entrance foyer's rough-hewn logs extend to the second floor, providing a framework for the master suite and den above. A warm contemporary palette of rich reds and greens with brown accents weaves its way through all three levels of the home. The client supplied pure white limestone for the fireplace surround, which the designers softened with buff-coloured walls and trim, maple flooring and edge grain fir panelling. The general contractor even turned old-growth edge-grain fir beams from a locally demolished ski lodge into furniture and millwork. This project was the winner of an IDI award for best complete residence.
